Mentoring for Directors and Heads of Service

New in post? Would you like an experienced person in an equivalent post to talk to and share ideas with?

If you do, then you need look no further than the Virtual Staff College Scotland Mentoring Project. The VSCS has established a mentoring project to support newly appointed Chief Officers or Heads of Service in Education or Children’s Services during their first year in post. The VSCS will arrange for the mentor manager to meet you and discuss the challenges you are meeting in your new post and the support you think you need to help you. The mentor manager will then match you up with an appropriately experienced mentor who will work with you during your first year in post. The mentoring is free of charge and completely confidential.

Interested? Then look at the Mentoring Guidelines at the foot of this page or contact the mentor manager by e-mail at jimanderson51@btinternet.com

Leadership Workshops

The staff college for the last five years has been working in partnership with Norman Drummond to offer leadership retreats for Directors of Education and Heads of Service alongside senior civil servants. Plans are now being made to extend these opportunities to colleagues in social work, health and youth justice. It is hoped this new series will begin later in 2010.

Accredited Training for Mentors

Training days for mentors and mentees are organised from time to time in response to demand and are advertised to all ADES members. Contact Jim Anderson if you are interested in receiving training in mentoring skills. jimanderson51@btinternet.com
